Today is Ombuds Day, which is recognized every year on the second Thursday of October and serves as an occasion to raise awareness about the ombuds profession. The theme for this year’s Ombuds Day is Ombuds: Office of Options, which nods to the variety of services ombuds can provide.
“Ombuds Day is an opportunity to highlight the value of our office. One of the ways we add value is by helping point people in the right direction. Finding the right place to bring a concern can be challenging, and people may not know their options.”
– Kevin Brezinski, Alberta Ombudsman
The Ombudsman’s office can help complainants navigate Alberta’s public sector. Our Complaint Checker provides free, 24/7 access to our expansive referral service that features contact information for more than 60 organizations. These organizations include other provincial ombuds offices and federal government agencies as well as offices committed to addressing concerns about consumer issues, health matters, elected officials, and many more.
The Complaint Checker directs users to the appropriate path for their concern and clarifies the sectors in our jurisdiction. These include complaints about services provided by the provincial government, municipalities, self-regulated health colleges, and other designated professional authorities, such as the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta, the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals, and more.
This Ombuds Day, know your options!
